Ambling along the rows of devices, information booths, and concession stands at GSMA's Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona makes for an interesting thought experiment. How exactly would this congress look like in an age of pervasive connectivity, where the so-called Internet of Things is no longer a topic on the agenda, but a long accepted standard?
With the moto: Power for all, Powerstorm ESS kicked of the market at this event with its truly unique product: zeroXess. A product that will enable people in rural off grid markets to get light, power, and communication all in one simple retro styled box. The zeroXess is truly a more intelligent (Iot) than anyone would expect.
At its core, that's basically what the Internet of Things is about, the insertion of sensors into anything and everything that would be able to communicate with one another and store data. And the possibilities are obviously so much broader than a day at a conference - even a highly digitized one.
Our CEO Mike Freni asks us to change the way we think about electrification and proposes. It is not the quantity of energy that is of paramount importance, but energy access. To maximize the benefit of energy, we need to think about how to provide energy access on a broad scale, not just quantities of energy to the privileged. There are more than 1.5 billion without access. Lets make the change. Electrification powers connectivity. Connectivity powers knowledge. Knowledge powers social and economic progress.
